Sam-Pa Lau Finally Got Ticket to KL

26 04 2009

Saturday

He went to MunSyI test at SMK Petra Jaya and answered 310 stupid and boring questions in 55 minutes. He doesn’t understand how this test can help him in securing his USM application as all the questions asked were totally unrelated at all. At 11.55 pm, he rushed to KIA to meet his family whom are waiting for him at the airport, thanks to his cousin who drove him all the way to the airport. As many of his trip to KIA, he’s always admire how beautiful the airport is, and how Sarawak can accomplish so much. He just felt bad that compared to the airport, Green Road still sucks. He managed to take-away his lunch at KFC when his mum is already urging the whole family to go into the departure hall. 12.50 pm. He was sitting at the departure hall, eating his KFC. He was the airplane, his first ride in Air Asia. This was one of his 5 air flights and he always enjoys flying. The feeling of taking off and the thrust of 4G against him brought exhilaration to him. Seeing Kuching city shrunk faster and faster, he silently said goodbye. He admired the floating clouds that look like cotton candies as the plane ascended up and up. He wondered how water can suspend mid-air to form white and fluffy clouds. There must be science behind it; he will look up into it when he got back from KL. He touched down safely and he thought he was in KLIA. But, he looked and looked but he didn’t feel like he was in KLIA because the terminal is messy and hot. Until he realised he was in LCCT and not KLIA that he understood everything; KLIA is next door. His uncle picked his family from the airport and on the way to the hotel, they stopped by Puchong’s market to eat Duck Egg Fried Kueh Tiau and Hokkien Mee. He ordered teh si peng special and his uncle asked him what’s the difference between Kuching’s teh si peng special and KL’s. He just answered that he doesn’t know, that’s why he wanted to try. The Hokkien Mee was his first ever of that kind of noodles and he likes it quite fine. Then they went to his uncle’s house before continuing to the hotel. His uncle’s house is beautiful, especially the lawn, which is his dream lawn design. Around evening, he finally managed to check into Peninsula Residence Hotel. His father got a nice studio suite for RM 700 for 2 nights. Then, his uncle sent them to Mid Valley Mega Mall at Bangsar. Like its name, the mall is the most massive mall that he could have ever been to; so big that it just make tHe Spring, Kuching a mere infant when both are compared together. One got lost in tHe Spring is an embarrassment but if one got lost in Mid Valle Mega Mall, its no laughing matter. He was impressed by the large numbers of foreigners there, unlike in Kuching, you only get to see once or maybe two in a crowd of hundreds. Later, his whole bought milks, orange juice, instant noodles and packets of bak guas home to their suite. Later in his suite, he couldn’t sleep due to the explosion of excitements that he’d going to have the next day. He was watching late movies to fill the time and often, the noise of motorcycles of KL’s Mat Rempit irritates him.

Sunday

He woke up to the sounds of vehicles on the road. He quickly brushed his teeth and got dressed. Around 10pm, they went down to the residence hotel’s restaurant for breakfast. Later, they caught a cab and went to Suria KLCC. At KLCC, they went to Petro science exhibition centre. He finally got to fulfill his childhood dream to visit the place. He spent half the day there. After that, they walk all the way to Aquaria KLCC. Before that, they had lunch at Kenny Rogers, and that is his most expensive meal. Then they went into Aquaria. It was his first trip ever to visit a huge aquarium like that. He saw many types of fish, separated with a horde of sharks just by a thick layer of glass, and saw countless of other species of land creatures. After going head over heels in the aquarium, they went to KLCC Park. It’s a huge park surrounded by gigantic buildings. He was impressed when they reached the playground as there was a lot of playground and a lot of children. While his sister was playing in the playground, his whole family sat near to the playground to keep an eye on her. One thing he noticed while he was in the park was the humidity of the place. There, the wind is not blowing at all, unlike parks in Kuching. He realised that the huge buildings surrounding the park actually block air flow and suffocate the park. It’s a draw back. But one thing he found intriguing is the dusk time in KL. When the time at Maxis Tower showed 7.00pm, there is still light and bright like the sun is one the way setting, unlike at Kuching whereby at 7 pm, its already dark and lights are on. But altogether, he was glad as he gets to visit those wonderful places that he wanted to go for a long time. They went back to the suite early at 8 pm because his brother had to retire as he would need to attend Shell Scholarship interview the next day.

Monday

The whole family went for breakfast at the residence hotel’s restaurant. After breakfast, they went back to their suite and his brother started dressing well for the interview. His brother’s interview was 12 pm and so his brother waned to arrive early. While his brother and father went for interview, he, his mother and sister went to the top floor to visit the swimming pool and gym. He tried the gym at first. After he was satisfied by the amount of sweat he produced, he switched places with his mum to watch over his sister who was playing at the children’s pool. What was hilarious was that when the door swung open due to wind, his mother got terrified and ran away from the gym right away; ghosts as what she thought. After that, they all rushed to LCCT again at once after his brother finished his interview. They sat and waited for 3 hours. At 7.30 pm, they are all in the airplane back to Kuching. He got to see the nice night view of Putrajaya just before the plane reach 30000 feet.

He will surely miss the feeling of glazing through the shy 30000 feet mid air. He will surely miss those humongous buildings at KL. He, who is I.

What A Wet-tastic Way to Usher CNY

2 02 2009

Flood… Flood, Flood. Yes, I spent my Chinese New Year through rains and floods.

The story is like this, my whole family went back to Sibu to visit my Grandma for the Holiday. We went back last Saturday, had reunion dinner. Luckily, there is no flood on the first day of new year. But there is rain, rain and rain. There is no one day there is no rain. Visited relatives’ house, got ang pau’s visited couple of Sibu’s Parks. The rest of time, I spend it in Grandma’s small old small wooden house watching TV, eating, sleeping and watching the sky.

But… when on the 5th day of CNY the water keep filling the only road out. On the 5th night, the water came in to full rise and swollen near to half of my car.

the red wira is my car

the red wira is my car

My father jacked up the car front to avoid the engine from drowning. At 3am the water risen to waist height. On the 6th day, the water was slowly receding but in a very slow rate. Well, my uncle came and help us push the car out. That time the water was ankle height. My whole family spent the night in my uncle’s house and on the 7th day (yesterday) we journey back.

We all endured the soggy smelly seats as the water got into our car. For 6 hours all the way from Sibu to Kuching.

Well, Happy New Year.

RC Youth #19’s Small Christmas Party

30 12 2008

I was surprised when I received a message from Grace on 28th night, inviting me to their Christmas party. I was honoured when she say I am invited because I’m their ex-leader and I go for free. I tried to invite few of my friends, but they declined.

On the night of 29th Dec, my brither and me arrive at the SMK Bat Lintang school hall around 7.15pm. We arrive just in time for the eating part of the party, and I found out they started as early as 6.30pm.

They set up a mini christmas tree.

Their food, some are ordered. Typical Malaysian party food. I ate just enough. Most time, I jus chat with Aaron and Teacher (Mdm. Teng). I did manage to take a peek in their Find the Hidden Santa game.

After the short group game, there is a singing performances by 2 young members. They sang 2 English songs. Followed after, there is a game that never happened lol. Although the committees tried to teach the members, but they never get it. So, they quickly move on to the exchanging presents part. Surprisingly, I drew out my own number! So, I got my own present back, no 35.

Santa didn't slide down the chimney to give presents this year xD

Near the end, there are few lucky draws. About my present, Grace exchange mine with another girl who got back her own present as well. What is the odd of that! I got a jigsaw puzzle that I have yet to begin.

Overall, I still consider the party premature as it isn’t that well organised. But stll, their efforts are appreciateable. What I like is that this party is some sort of gathering rather than party, and there is no big big ranked guys in the party, no speeches that sort. It isn’t formal, just cozy and nice. Thanks for inviting me ;)

A Christmas Party

27 12 2008

On the 26th Dec, I joined my group of friends for a post-Christmas Gathering. 15 of us includes, Patrick Choo, Jason Chong, Shane, Bryan Kho, Bryan Ng, Alvin Ng, Angeline (Alvin’s GF), Benjamine, Ho Kui Lan, Grace, Nicholas,  Pau Horng, Pau Horng’s GF, Steven Yeo, Poon Tzia Shen, and not least me. At first, we grouped at Kuching Civic Center. I was unaware that the library has turned into a gym. We waited for more than 1 hour for Patrick to arrive. About 8pm, we went to Jacky Studio which is located at Jalan Deshon. It was a house-studio kind of building, quite cool. It was Patrick’s idea that we all take a group potret photo with the reason that we do not often get to see each other again. As we havent make our reservation, we have o wait till 9pm for our turn. So we headed to Memories at Padungan there for our dinner.

I ate RM 27.90 there on Grilled Chicken, Fried Chicken Salad, and Orange Juice. Then, we all rush back to Jacky Studio at around 9pm. We were the final group of people. Jacky who took our photos is a cool guy. He make us laughs especially when he snaps pictures while doing some limbo shaking. We totally laugh the hell out. So, I am expecting our photos to have 15 smiling faces xD (Benjamin left early so he was not included).

Then around 9.45pm ,we went to Kado at Jalan Chan Bee Kiew off Jalan Padungan, last row of shop behind Public Bank near Lok Thian. I never knew it existed! I heard its just opened around October this year. There are a lot of youths there.

A Birthday Celebration in Advance?

24 12 2008

Yesterday on the eve of eve of Christmas, I went for a birthday celebration masterminded by Steven (Yeo) as Grace (Sow)’s birthday is approaching and he somewhat heard that Grace will be leaving Kuching on 25th this month. Which later turns out to be false, as she is not going anywhere.

Never mined, we went to Bombastic Cafe because another friend Patrick (Choo) is working there. I work there as well just that on a different day, it was like going to work but being the customer. I knew what to order already as I have read the menu countless of times = =”.

We ordered as much as RM58.50 for 3 person’s share. Patrick’s not eating. Boss don’t pay us to eat lol. We ate and talk and drank from 7pm to near 11pm. We waited for Patrick to finish work, then We head to McD at beside Tun Jugah’s one. I’m surprised by the amount of people there, all queuing politely at the counter.

Beautiful Memorable Trip of Graduation

11 12 2008

Santubong Resort for 3 days and 2 nights may not be fun if your alone. But when your with friends, all the fun in the world gets to you. I went to Santubong from 7-9 Dec.

At the end of the trip. A group photo.

At the end of the trip. A group photo.

On day 1, I reached the resort early. Went for a quick explore and fell asleep at the beach. When I woke, it was raining and my friends reached. We arranged or luggages, and clean the whole chalet at first. The chalet was surprisingly good for me. After the cleaning and is done, we rested. A lot of the boys went to the pool. Some played basketball. I stayed back and read Wan Ying’s Twilight I missed the first 20 minutes of the movie the previous night, waiting for my other friends to show up. After that, Irwin, Kelvin and Min Heng came for a visit and a quick chat. Soon after I got a knock on the door and followed 2nd group of my friends to the pool. This time in the swimming pool, I learnt how to discard my fear of sinking and manage to float! My very first improvement.

At night time, I followed Kwong Yong to Choice Mall to withdraw money. When I got back to the chalet, they were all dining. Steamboats, wines, meats, lots of foods. After having enough soups and steamboats, I went for a grill at the meat station. Sze Hog and me fried all the meat. We even pour red wine on the chicken. LOL. But it tasted great!

That night I slept quite late. Played a lots of card games. Especially poker cards, we played variety of fun games with it. We tried to control our volume but it was laughters all the way.

Day 2, I woke quite late at around 7.30am. Had breakfast and around 9.30 am, I am already jumping in the swimming pool. I was taught by many friends on how to swim. Freestyle, doggy style, and many more. I did have an improvement in swimming but I am still not that confident with my skills. The whole morning, we play in the pool. A lot of my friends were too learning how to swim. After that we headed back to the chalet. There is noone who wanted to prepare lunch. So I volunteered to fried kueh tiaw. Suddenly, Wan Ying wanted to fry too. So we had this idea of competing out of the air. Kwong Yong offered to be judge but I prefer the people to choose. At the end, I do not know who won. The kueh tiaw that we both friend finish in an instant. They must have been starving. But I think Wan Ying did not bad for he first time frying kueh tiaw the kitchen.

In the afternoon, it was raining. A lot of the girls we’re sleeping, Andrew says they were having ‘pillow talk’ LOL. I was reading my own novel when Jerren propose we go out. Andrew, Boon Yee, Jerren, Min Huang, Fui Lip, and me went out for a walk around the lobby. We ended up sitting in the lobby and end up on the comfortable sofas. We are having our ’sofa talk’ and we ended up playing a game that ‘never take place’.

When the rain stops, we six when to the beach to fly the kite. We flew the kite so high that the line finishes. Then we snap a few photos. Before we head back for dinner, we shouted to the sea. We sang our school song loudly, at least half of it anyway and ended with everyone laughing.

We headed home and we are in getting ready for dinner. I had simple Maggie Mee dinner and didn’t follow a few of my friends who went out for dinner because I caught a minor stomach ache. After my bath and shower, I relax and watch TV in the living room. Near midnight, Gloria, Jing Jing, Natalia and gang came. Before going to sleep, I played few rounds of PS2.

Day 3, the last day, I woke and we went to the beach. Not all of us went but we have fun there. I made a sandmans with help from Gloria and Jerren, while Fui Lip, Andrew and Min Huang made Sand Balls, drew Mr Lee J.K. and threw the balls at him. LOL. After that, I went to the pool with the guys for a dip. When I rained we all ran back. After shower and packing, I followed Wan Ying, Phei Sze and Wendy to the pool. They wanted a quick dip so I was there as a timekeeper.

At the end of the trip, we all posed in front of the lobby. All of them went home while I waited for my mum to follow them to Damai Beach Resort for 2 days 1 night stay. These 3 days with my friends are a memorable one and I will always cherish those fun-filled moments with all of them. Perhaps we all amy meet someday and catch up with each other’s life. I will surely miss all of you.

Damai Beach Resort: 9-10 Dec

Day 1 at Damai Beach, I went to the pool, again. I successfully learn the swimming way of the Doggy. LOL. Damai is much better condition than Santubong. I enjoyed the facilities there. At night, it was raining heavily and I was stuck in the room.

To Western Digital!

10 10 2008

Say WD!

Say WD!

Yesterday was our field trip to Western Digital. My first field trip in these 2 years; it was enjoyable aand cool. Only a handful went as it was a month away from exam. However, what’s stopping us to have fun. We actually thought we are going to CD manufacturing factory but it turn out to be a media manufacturing factory, which is cooler.

Western Digital (WD), located in the heart of Sama Jaya, Kuching is doing a part of the manufacuring job of a media. Media is actually the disc spinning in the computer hard disc. I never heard of WD before, thats because they don’t do finished up products like camera and etc. Hey, its here that is saw people working in small cubical offices for the first time!

We get to see a few parts of the making processes. And to find high technologies here in Sarawak is actually cool. Min Huang was super outspoken and asked a lot of questions. Haha. Too bad they are not giving away surveniors, as a lot of us anticipated.

At the end of the day, its not the souveniors that matters. But, the ‘out-door knowledge’ that is most meaningful.

To The Pet Shop =)

31 08 2008

Yesterday, I went out with my dad to the vet (cum pet shop) in Batu Lintang. We bring our dog (German Shepherd) to the shop for its occasional vaccine jab.

We took him on a van my father borrowed from his friend. ( Usually transport him using our Proton Wira)

When we
got to the shop, surprise surprise! I saw lots of pets there. Their owner left them there for home-stay. So I took out my high-tech old camera a snap a few cute animals.
Lonely

I ventured further into the shop, and found this chiwawah.. It has been trading barks with Oscar since the moment Oscar went into the shop.Boy, its big watery eyes sure can melt hearts.

At the end of the day, Oscar got his jab. Then we all go home. Seldom have I seen pets with such cuteness. I can imagine how much efforts their owners put into grooming them.
