wORKING aS tICKET cHECKER fOR AAR cONCERT

4 11 2009

I got an invitation to work for an event concert; my senior invited my roommate and me. It was about 6 days ago, when I was told that there is a concert and they need extra hands. The only thing that strikes me to join is ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS. Yes! I went to a concert, an ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS Concert. Well, as a worker, not a concert goer.

We all, I, my roommate, and two kolej seniors went there 3 days ago, at 2 pm. The event was held at Bukit Jalil. We reached there around 2pm and there are people gathered there already, waiting to get in. They sat on the floor 50 feet away from the entrance. I am quite surprised to find out that Malaysian folks actually would camp for a concert. It was Halloween and a lot of people were dressed up.

They whole event started at 7.30pm whereby there are small performances by local bands. We had One Buck Short, Disagree, Pop Shuvit. I was assigned as ticket checker at the VIP and Media area. There’s a floor stage on the right front of the stage for VIPs and I was assigned to work there. WooHooo! Closer to AAR!

I told a quite a number of my friends that I was working in the concert. They were surprised how I got the work but most of them we’re jealous of me. One in particular I teased her a lot about it. Haha.

There were advertisements by DiGi before hand and when everyone (the crowd) saw AAR in the advertisement, they shouted! LOL. They cheered when they saw Lady Gaga. They Boo-ed quite a bunch of local artistes. Haha, they boo-ed Miley Cyrus too xD. Then, the local bands started to perform. It was really hard for me to work that time because VIPs and MEDIAs keep going in and out of the VIP stages. That’s not all, they sneaked in their friends and relatives that have no tags. When I stop them, they just turn a blind eye. How can I do my work? It’s bad to the extent that my boss that time scolded me. Frustrating.

9pm AAR finally arrived through the VIP entrance which is behind. The fans on my right screamed their lungs out. I heard Tyson’s name the most. When they came out and waved, the fans went louder. Haha. And when they went up the stairs of the stage, I saw Nick their lead singer wearing a native American tribe headband and was flying kissing and waving to the fans on my right on his way up. Boy, the fans screamed their lungs out.

They started singing half hour later due to technical dysfunctions. But, they started great anyway. They sang as far as I can remember, hits like Dirty Little Secret, I Wanna, Swing Swing Swing and It Ends Tonight. And right after It Ends Tonight, they just stop and leave stage. No nothing! Everyone chanted ‘We Want more!’. Wow. Then they return and perform two more hits, one of them Gives You Hell.

At least for the last song, I went and join the crowd, sang, jump and shout. Haha.. It’s very energetic. I like it.

After that it ends. Crowds are invited to the Meet & Greet area to meet the bands. But, we who was working went backstage to wait for the new orders. Backstage, I saw Nick again. Coming down the stage and he stood 6 feet away from me. Haha. My friends was super jealous when she heard about it. He’s really cool, greeting all the local artistes and shaking hands. Not cocky or anything like that.

yEAP.. 6 FEET aWAY FROM nICK. bAD qUALITY bCAUSE mY hANDS WERE SHAKING..

Luckily, we don’t have to do clean ups. So we just left the scene. The sad thing is, until today I haven’t receive my pay. The cool thing is, I get to go to All American Rejects concert for free. YooHoo! :)

RC Youth #19’s Small Christmas Party

30 12 2008

I was surprised when I received a message from Grace on 28th night, inviting me to their Christmas party. I was honoured when she say I am invited because I’m their ex-leader and I go for free. I tried to invite few of my friends, but they declined.

On the night of 29th Dec, my brither and me arrive at the SMK Bat Lintang school hall around 7.15pm. We arrive just in time for the eating part of the party, and I found out they started as early as 6.30pm.

They set up a mini christmas tree.

Their food, some are ordered. Typical Malaysian party food. I ate just enough. Most time, I jus chat with Aaron and Teacher (Mdm. Teng). I did manage to take a peek in their Find the Hidden Santa game.

After the short group game, there is a singing performances by 2 young members. They sang 2 English songs. Followed after, there is a game that never happened lol. Although the committees tried to teach the members, but they never get it. So, they quickly move on to the exchanging presents part. Surprisingly, I drew out my own number! So, I got my own present back, no 35.

Santa didn't slide down the chimney to give presents this year xD

Near the end, there are few lucky draws. About my present, Grace exchange mine with another girl who got back her own present as well. What is the odd of that! I got a jigsaw puzzle that I have yet to begin.

Overall, I still consider the party premature as it isn’t that well organised. But stll, their efforts are appreciateable. What I like is that this party is some sort of gathering rather than party, and there is no big big ranked guys in the party, no speeches that sort. It isn’t formal, just cozy and nice. Thanks for inviting me ;)

A Birthday Celebration in Advance?

24 12 2008

Yesterday on the eve of eve of Christmas, I went for a birthday celebration masterminded by Steven (Yeo) as Grace (Sow)’s birthday is approaching and he somewhat heard that Grace will be leaving Kuching on 25th this month. Which later turns out to be false, as she is not going anywhere.

Never mined, we went to Bombastic Cafe because another friend Patrick (Choo) is working there. I work there as well just that on a different day, it was like going to work but being the customer. I knew what to order already as I have read the menu countless of times = =”.

Grace, going 18 years old on 27th

We ordered as much as RM58.50 for 3 person’s share. Patrick’s not eating. Boss don’t pay us to eat lol. We ate and talk and drank from 7pm to near 11pm. We waited for Patrick to finish work, then We head to McD at beside Tun Jugah’s one. I’m surprised by the amount of people there, all queuing politely at the counter.

we had fries and cokes

And while Patrick was telling a joke,

We made a mess!

We migrated to the table behind us. We continued chatting, laughing and talking until 12am and everyone rush home.

Happy Birthday Grace.

Beautiful Memorable Trip of Graduation

11 12 2008

Santubong Resort for 3 days and 2 nights may not be fun if your alone. But when your with friends, all the fun in the world gets to you. I went to Santubong from 7-9 Dec.

At the end of the trip. A group photo.

At the end of the trip. A group photo.

On day 1, I reached the resort early. Went for a quick explore and fell asleep at the beach. When I woke, it was raining and my friends reached. We arranged or luggages, and clean the whole chalet at first. The chalet was surprisingly good for me. After the cleaning and is done, we rested. A lot of the boys went to the pool. Some played basketball. I stayed back and read Wan Ying’s Twilight I missed the first 20 minutes of the movie the previous night, waiting for my other friends to show up. After that, Irwin, Kelvin and Min Heng came for a visit and a quick chat. Soon after I got a knock on the door and followed 2nd group of my friends to the pool. This time in the swimming pool, I learnt how to discard my fear of sinking and manage to float! My very first improvement.

At night time, I followed Kwong Yong to Choice Mall to withdraw money. When I got back to the chalet, they were all dining. Steamboats, wines, meats, lots of foods. After having enough soups and steamboats, I went for a grill at the meat station. Sze Hog and me fried all the meat. We even pour red wine on the chicken. LOL. But it tasted great!

That night I slept quite late. Played a lots of card games. Especially poker cards, we played variety of fun games with it. We tried to control our volume but it was laughters all the way.

Day 2, I woke quite late at around 7.30am. Had breakfast and around 9.30 am, I am already jumping in the swimming pool. I was taught by many friends on how to swim. Freestyle, doggy style, and many more. I did have an improvement in swimming but I am still not that confident with my skills. The whole morning, we play in the pool. A lot of my friends were too learning how to swim. After that we headed back to the chalet. There is noone who wanted to prepare lunch. So I volunteered to fried kueh tiaw. Suddenly, Wan Ying wanted to fry too. So we had this idea of competing out of the air. Kwong Yong offered to be judge but I prefer the people to choose. At the end, I do not know who won. The kueh tiaw that we both friend finish in an instant. They must have been starving. But I think Wan Ying did not bad for he first time frying kueh tiaw the kitchen.

In the afternoon, it was raining. A lot of the girls we’re sleeping, Andrew says they were having ‘pillow talk’ LOL. I was reading my own novel when Jerren propose we go out. Andrew, Boon Yee, Jerren, Min Huang, Fui Lip, and me went out for a walk around the lobby. We ended up sitting in the lobby and end up on the comfortable sofas. We are having our ’sofa talk’ and we ended up playing a game that ‘never take place’.

When the rain stops, we six when to the beach to fly the kite. We flew the kite so high that the line finishes. Then we snap a few photos. Before we head back for dinner, we shouted to the sea. We sang our school song loudly, at least half of it anyway and ended with everyone laughing.

We headed home and we are in getting ready for dinner. I had simple Maggie Mee dinner and didn’t follow a few of my friends who went out for dinner because I caught a minor stomach ache. After my bath and shower, I relax and watch TV in the living room. Near midnight, Gloria, Jing Jing, Natalia and gang came. Before going to sleep, I played few rounds of PS2.

Day 3, the last day, I woke and we went to the beach. Not all of us went but we have fun there. I made a sandmans with help from Gloria and Jerren, while Fui Lip, Andrew and Min Huang made Sand Balls, drew Mr Lee J.K. and threw the balls at him. LOL. After that, I went to the pool with the guys for a dip. When I rained we all ran back. After shower and packing, I followed Wan Ying, Phei Sze and Wendy to the pool. They wanted a quick dip so I was there as a timekeeper.

At the end of the trip, we all posed in front of the lobby. All of them went home while I waited for my mum to follow them to Damai Beach Resort for 2 days 1 night stay. These 3 days with my friends are a memorable one and I will always cherish those fun-filled moments with all of them. Perhaps we all amy meet someday and catch up with each other’s life. I will surely miss all of you.

Damai Beach Resort: 9-10 Dec

Day 1 at Damai Beach, I went to the pool, again. I successfully learn the swimming way of the Doggy. LOL. Damai is much better condition than Santubong. I enjoyed the facilities there. At night, it was raining heavily and I was stuck in the room.

Parent’s 21st Aniversary: Cake

13 10 2008

Yesterday, was my parent’s 21st anniversary. We had a simple dinner outside, trying out dishes of a new cafe we found out which tasted great by the way.

Cut to the chase, let’s go to one of my favourite food, the cake. This time, it’s German Cheese from Taka Cake House (with 15% discount). I do not know what’s the difference between cheeses especially when these cheeses came from which country, like the case of German Cheese.

Anyway, below are the cake of the day:

Well, it tasted nice (all cakes taste nice) but from what I heard, cheese cake from Secret Recipe is the nicest in town, which I’ve yet to try. Maybe someday.

My Cousin’s 21st Birthday

12 10 2008

Today (11th of 10) was my cousin’s (Ah Kwang) 21st birthday bash. As 21st birthday is celebrated hugely in chinese custom to a person to adulthood.

Hence, today more or less circle around the party.

First, my mum wanted to use my camera for the party which I lend to my friend, Patrick. So, I asked it back from him and requested him to send it over to me. (Thanks Patrick). Then he brought me to Big Apple Donut, which is located in tHe Spring, Kuching. He intended to make a review of Apple Donut in his blog. My second Big Apple, I chosen to eat the less sweet ones as I am health-conscious (ok, laugh laugh)

Below are few snaps, courtesy of Patrick.

Its nice that they show their works for people to see. Its seldom found in food outlets in Kuching. It shows hygiene and other food outlet should practise this too.

I like this. Its called ‘The Alien’. Its not too sweet and it has creamy chocolate filling.

Then, I headed back home, with my camera.

Below, are the foods that my mum, and aunts, and the Birthday Boy cooked. Believe or not, the pictures below are not food ordered from Lok Thian or any, but home-cooked.

And 11 more other dishes including Spicy Curry and BBQ.

At the end, it ends well. My cousin was very outspoken and managed to get almost everyone to take picture with him. I’m sure its a memorable birthday for him.

Ya, I ate a lot. Too much actually, till its hard for me to sleep. Thats why I am doing this post. Haha.

Alright, time to pen off and go to Slumberland.

To Western Digital!

10 10 2008

Say WD!

Say WD!

Yesterday was our field trip to Western Digital. My first field trip in these 2 years; it was enjoyable aand cool. Only a handful went as it was a month away from exam. However, what’s stopping us to have fun. We actually thought we are going to CD manufacturing factory but it turn out to be a media manufacturing factory, which is cooler.

Western Digital (WD), located in the heart of Sama Jaya, Kuching is doing a part of the manufacuring job of a media. Media is actually the disc spinning in the computer hard disc. I never heard of WD before, thats because they don’t do finished up products like camera and etc. Hey, its here that is saw people working in small cubical offices for the first time!

We get to see a few parts of the making processes. And to find high technologies here in Sarawak is actually cool. Min Huang was super outspoken and asked a lot of questions. Haha. Too bad they are not giving away surveniors, as a lot of us anticipated.

At the end of the day, its not the souveniors that matters. But, the ‘out-door knowledge’ that is most meaningful.

12 07 2008

Last night, I went to Jing Yee’s Birthday Party by hitching Wying’s ride after tuition. Hah, it was raining!

BL Sports Day 2008

6 07 2008

Last Thursday and Friday (3rd and 4th July) was an annual School’s Sports Day. Miraclely, I took 2 events (lontar peluru and melempar cakera) that I never did before. Possibly because this is my final year that make me taking up few sports.

Well, Thursday started off with few events. Lontar cakera was in the morning (I didnt win any).

But in the afternoon, we had marching parade competition.

haha, i\'m the flag bearer

We’re not well arranged, and from far, we’re totally a mess. But, unexpectedly, we’re announce to be the champion for Pasukan Beruniform category. Boy, our hard works finally paid off. Aaron, our commander must be proud. I guess I did get my retiring gift after all.

Later, I did some first aid duty near the final point.

Well the whole event was enjoyable. Those moments (playing and marching) are cherish able and nice.

Youth Chinese Cultural Performance Competition

21 06 2008

Last week, 14 June, I went to a Youth program held by Kuching-Samarahan Division Chinese Association.

Not knowing it was a competition at first, as I thought it was just a performance. It was held at Kenyalang Park old theater and its really crowded with youth!

Its an annual competition between Chinese Association of secondary schools in Kuching-Samarahan zone in Sarawak. We can find students mostly there. My goodness, they are wild and loud! I jumped into going for the event because I never been to one like this before, however it was disappointing as most cultural performance involve fan (the Chinese fan dance) almost 6 schools using fans!

The competition was divided into 2 category, traditional and non-traditional. SMK Sungai Maong won the non-traditional category with their electrifying hip-hop dances. But its the traditional category that’s the main charm. As my best friend’s (ex)school, SMK Jalan Arang won the gold with their mini drum dance. (Yeah!! No fans. Thats why it won!) It really intrigued me as their performances were different from the rest. My goodness, my friend screamed till she lost her voice. Haha. Well, the modern performances were hip-hops and break dances that were undeniably good.

Here are a few pics on the bronze winner for the traditional category:

Thy are from SMK Green Road. Its an orchestra that integrated all chinese traditional instruments. Its amazing a conductor can control all of them.

Anyway, its was a wonderful annual event. Although it may be stuffy and crowd y inside the theater, but when you cool down and get the hang of the whole event. This was the 16th competition. Its an event that I will never say no to, if I was invited to attend again =)
